  • Character Encoding Issues

We just updated from VB 4.2.5 and on our forum if we use the page forward and back buttons character encoding seems to break.

If I reload the page, the charcters show up correctly:

The Character encoding is currently set to `ISO-8859-1` as if I set it to `UTF-8` entire messages disappear.
Currently the database encoding is set to latin1

Why would a page reload show the characters, and what can we do to fix this?

I don't know why a page reload would fix it. Must be your browser trying to fix things for you.

The characters with the problems are not supported using the ISO-8859-1 character set. They simply don't exist in that outdated standard. They are UTF-8 characters.

Really don't know. Would need more information to help diagnose diagnose the issue including vBulletin version, PHP version, MySQL, version, type of posts, database character set and collation, the connection character set, the contents of your config.php file. The screenshots provide no diagnostic information that would help us provide support.
