  • Possibility to arrange main forum page by user preference.

    Hello all,

Recent years our company expanded a lot and we got lots of new products. We have a dedicated forum section for each product and users already started to complain that it's too difficult to navigate to the product of their interest.

Here is a snapshot of a part of our products - as you can see even collapsed the Directory list cannot fit into HD resolution:
Click image for larger version Name:	chrome_2019-08-05_18-18-09.jpg Views:	0 Size:	157.9 KB ID:	4419573

The whole list with expanded directories could be seen here:
    https://forums.chaosgroup.com/

We cannot arrange the directories by product of interest since customers are interested in different products. The only option we have so far is to ask customer to collapse directories he is not interested in, but this is not the best user experience we would like to offer.

Is there a way to allow users to rearrange directory list by their preference, or something else that would allow the user to not scroll the list endlessly until it reaches to the directory he is looking for?

Any help would be much appreciated.

There is no way to arrange forums based on user preference.

You may look at converting to Groups. Then users can subscribe to the groups they are interested in and focus their attention on those groups.

Can I get more information about those Groups?
I tried to read something in the Docs but it looks like there is an issue with the server, most of the pages do not work:

What would be the benefits of using Groups. Currently we have an option to subscribe to a Forum but not to Directory:

Do you mean the same thing or it's something else?

Groups can be accessed on your site by going to /social-groups as you've removed the tab for them.

Groups are very similar to forums except users can join the groups they are interested in. This provides three things: 1) Scalability. 2) better user control over content and 3) you can actually get a count of how many people are in each group. Adding content to groups is basically the same. Users create new topics/discussions and other users reply to them. They support attachments, embedded images, Richtext, etc... While groups are designed to be user created and driven, you can control who can create groups with permissions. You can also create different categories for them in the AdminCP within the Channel Manager.
