  • Does node id 2 (forum) inherit permissions from node id 1 unless you choose custom permissions?

When you go into admincp, Channel Manager and choose to edit the top level Forum (node ID 2) the field that appears in all the child forums which says "parent forum" does not appear, as you would expect because it is the top-level forum, therefore by definition it has no parent.

However, when you go into admincp, Channel Permissions and choose any usergroup for the top level forum (node ID 2) the field saying "inherit from parent" does appear. You would infer from this that it will inherit permissions from Node ID 1. Is this the case? Does node id 2 inherit permissions from node id 1?

Yes. If you go into the Channel Permissions under Channel Management in the AdminCP you will see that all of the permissions for Node 2 are set to Inherit from parent channel by default.

Yes. All channel nodes inherit permissions from their parent unless they are customized.
