Invite two-letter usernames to social groups, How to?

I wonder which setting it is that limits the "search usernames" when inviting to social groups. I have some two letter usernames but they dont get recognized when inviting. It takes three characters for this to work.
Is it possible for me to change that?

You can change the minimum number of letters for search in adminCP > settings > message searching options > Search Index Minimum Word Length

It might help but it does say it can affect the database

Hmm, it did not help. I use Sphinx for search and know there is a setting in there as well. However I am not sure if sphinx is used even for this rather "easy" search.

That setting doesn't help with user searching. User Lookup isn't related to search in any way.

Just type the username into the invitation box and hit enter. The only thing that won't happen is the quick lookup won't work since it requires three characters.

OK, Then I believe it is a bug in 5.3.4_1. Or I have some setting wrong. Could you please instruct me what I should check?

I don't know what the symptoms of the problem are. There is no setting that controls the length of a username that can be invited to a social group.

Seems to be a bug in the system. There are no controls to change this.
