Wayne Luke when we first moved to cloud we had problems with any emoticons used from a device keyboard (not those in bulletin) they would cut off any following text in a post.

We were told it wasn't possible to fix without the site being offline for a long time and even then might still not work so we didn't bother going ahead.

If we were changed to UTF8MB4 would that change things? Or are we already on it?

Cloud sites do not use UTFMB4 by default. I wish they all did. Since you're a migration, your site most likely uses the character set that you had prior to migrating and upgrading. Converting to UTF8MB4 would be the down time that you mentioned. How long a forum will be down depends on its size. I had my Rabid Badger cloud site converted to UTF8MB4 by the cloud developers so it is possible to make the transition. As I said, most of the emoticons work out of the box. However, some are overlaid on existing ASCII characters so the output isn't perfect. Some may cut off text. It depends on how the end-of-data character is interpreted.

If you wanted to try, you would have to open a ticket and ask that your database be converted to UTF8MB4. However, emoticons aren't something we test for currently.
