  • Top of page link in footer

    I have created the top of page link in the footer using site builder/ footer/ new navigation item/ Navigation item name/......... TOP, Target url #top

    I am just wondering why it takes me back to the home page from the bottom of a blog page?
    It doesn't take me back to the top of the page I have just finished reading.
    It doesn't take me back to the top of the groups page either, yet it is in the footer on every page.

    Please tell me how to get around this?

    Thank you.......

    It is because we use what is called a BASE url. When you don't enter a full address then it prepends the BASE url to the link to make it work how the system is designed. You're not adding a full URL when you use just #top. I don't think #top will work by itself because there is no anchor by that name on pages.

    To get this working, I am going to suggest the simplest change first... Open your header template and look for this code here:
    Code:
    <div id="main-navbar-wrapper">
    Change it to:
    Code:
    <a name="top"></a>
    <div id="main-navbar-wrapper">

      I tried your suggestion and found it here.

      Code:
      <!--[if !IE]><!-->
      <body id="vb-page-body" class="vb-page view-mode{vb:raw isLoggedout}">
      <!--<![endif]-->
      <div id="main-navbar-wrapper">
      	<div id="main-navbar" class="clearfix">
      		<vb:if condition="$user['can_use_sitebuilder'] AND $_COOKIE[$sb_state_cookie] == '1'">
      			<ul class="main-nav left">
      				{vb:template admin_sitebuilder_menu, page={vb:raw page}}
      I added the extra code but nothing changed.

      Code:
      <!--[if !IE]><!-->
      <body id="vb-page-body" class="vb-page view-mode{vb:raw isLoggedout}">
      <!--<![endif]-->
      <a name="top"></a>
      <div id="main-navbar-wrapper">
      	<div id="main-navbar" class="clearfix">
      		<vb:if condition="$user['can_use_sitebuilder'] AND $_COOKIE[$sb_state_cookie] == '1'">
      			<ul class="main-nav left">
      				{vb:template admin_sitebuilder_menu, page={vb:raw page}}
      I am still unable to navigate to the top of each individual page from the footer. And I understand that if I changed the address of TOP in the footer, the result will be the same, as I believe the footer Nav link is a global doobie.

      Perhaps I missed something? Thank you.....

        It is due to partial URLs and the base url. I suggest this addon here: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=289068

            Mr Luke, I did everything to the letter.

            There should be a step 9 that I can't remember, maybe save status or something?

            Another step that would complete the process would be step 10.
            This for me was to Enable Hook System. It didn't do anything without this.

            Ok, it works better than I expected, nice scroll/glide, good stuff but.......

            Please look at my attachment and tell me what you think.

            Very good scroll effect infact.

            It is a real shame that it is looks a little messy but I am 100% sure there is a remedy for this misalignment and non conforming font issue.

            Maybe it is down to me and my set up?

            Please let me know..... Almost there...............................

              The CSS added in the template is very basic. Looks okay to me on a default installation. You have customized your style so will have to mess around with the CSS in the new template as well to get it to conform to you're site.

                Ok, yes, you are correct as ever. The more I edit, the more trouble I create. LOL.

                Got it.
