  • Use domain root dir + existing html pages?

Have not tried it yet (still testing in a jailed /forums/ dir), but can you dump all the forum files/scripts in the root dir of a domain and still use existing /index.html, /about.html etc. pages? My Apache setup reads /index.html 1st, then /index.php

You "can" but you are asking for trouble- links that do not specify index.php will default to index.html. Would likely bring more issues than whatever you are trying to solve by dumping all files into 1 directory.

k thx. It was just some little annoyances (ie. http://www.domain.com/forums/forum/...) that had me wondering, as http://www.domain.com/forum/... looks better.

I will prob test it all out anyway in a root dir out of curiosity to see what results.

Why would you have domain.com/forum/forum/... ? You may have /forum/forum.php for 1 page but not two /forum/ folders.

I suppose in the case you choose to call your install directory /forums/ then yes you could have the double /forum/ - wasn't thinking that. You can call the folder vBulletin is installed in something else though... /vb/, /content/, /x/, whatever. Preferably a keyword associated with your forum topic.
