  • Upgrade from vBulletin 3 and URL rewrite help

We currently have a an active vBulletin 3.8 forum and are in the process of upgrading to VB5. We also had VBSEO installed to re-write the URLS. There are many internal links and we don't want these to break when we update to the new version. I did have a look at some .htaccess options that would revert back to the original URL format, however these don't seem to be working.

The format currently in place is: domain.com/forumdirectory/PostID-post-title.html and I see that the new (built in rewrite) is: domain.com/forumdirectory/forum/topic-name/PostID-PostTitle

I need some help setting up the .htaccess file, so that the original internal links will open the correct post. In addition, the "forumdirectory" for the live site will need to change to the new directory where we have our development version. This is so that once we have migrated all the posts to VB5, we can then load from the new forum with the URL style: domain.com/forum/topic-name/PostID-PostTitle.

There may be questions regarding the migration, this is a long story and involves the integration of Social Engine with version 3.8 and we are dropping SE and merging the data from there, into VB 5.

Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated, as I am not that familiar with writing .htaccess files and redirects.

    Many thanks
    Hans

This isn't something we can provide help with...vBSEO isn't/wasn't our product.

There is a thread on vBulletin.org with some rewrite rules to use.

Thanks, I did take a look at that, but all it shows is some rules that should revert back to the original URL style like domain.com/post.php?postID=12345 which does not help at all and I really need to make sure that the internal URL links don't break and end up with error pages. I have done loads of looking around and nothing I can see will fix what I need to have done, so therefore I have asked here. I am prepared to pay someone to create an .htaccess file that will do the job.
      Thanks

You would need it to rewrite to the original URLs. Original URLs will redirect to vB5 URLs after you upgrade.

Your alternative would be to upgrade to vB4 and use another third party product, DBSEO, which can redirect old vBSEO URLs.

Is there anyone out there who specialises in .htaccess coding to help with the problem I have described above? I am willing to pay for your services as we do not want to have thousands of broken links when we migrate from VB3 to VB5.

          Thanks
