  • Error updating from v5.0.2 to v5.0.3 - There is a serious error and the page cannot be rendered

I just updated my site from v5.0.2 to v5.0.3 and now my forum displays the following error
"There is a serious error and the page cannot be rendered"

To update I did the following.
    - Site into maint mode
    - upload v503 files to site
    - Run update tool - update complete

Now on the front end I get the serious error message. I can log into the admincp and able to make changes there.

I don't see any errors in the logs. I have reverted templates back to the default.

Anyone know what causes the "serious error" message?

This message generally means the system cannot connect to the database. I suggest reuploading the files at this time.

      Solution from support.

Your password, as an administrator, had a password expiry date, 3 months after you set it up.

This is a default in the administrator usergroup.

Because you hadn't updated your password, a system message was being generated, however there is a bug in how we handle these errors.

I disabled the password expiry setting, thus fixing the problem.
