Can you read? Just put a transparent favicon.ico (16x16) into "/var/www/".

I did; the error persists, I doubt the favicon on its own will stop the entire thing from loading. I am trying to see if I can get php to log errors

        Is it a fresh installation?

Its an upgrade from Beta 28 but has only been installed for a little over 48 hours. No modifications what-so-ever. It seems the issue was "Too many connections" to database, restarting the SQL server fixed it; I need to see what caused this :C

Too many connections to he database means you were getting too much traffic for your account to handle- if you are on a shared host you can see if they offer a plan with higher capacity.

Getting the same problem... the damn thing is crashing with ~25 visitors online. there is something seriously wrong with the VB5 core system. it runs slow has a snail and crashes every damn 10 minutes. I've taken my forum offline so I can set all of the templates and css to cache as files rather than writing / reading from the DB. hopefully this will work if I can get the site to stay stable long enough to process the config changes!

Storing files and CSS as files are both settings under Settings -> Options -> Style and Language Options. They don't require the system to be offline.
