That's because it's not a point release, and is an entirely new product.

    (4.0 -> 4.1 = Point release. 4.0 -> 5.0 != Point release.)

Ahh apologies for using the wrong expression ("point release"). So that's what 5 stands for as opposed to 4? Entirely new product?

It does state Beta but I actually thought it was not common practice to ship out a product that was 70% 'working' and then fix bugs in a sprint like fashion.

But saying that I am more disappointed as I now wish I had stayed with 3.8 and then upgraded to this. I feels 4.x has been a bit messy (for me as I don't use the CMS) and now this 5 has emerged.

Very different from the other forum softwares.
          It has not been designed.
It has not been developed by an experienced developers team.
Developed by teams for this and teams for that.
It's built on the Chaos theory.
          The result?
Chaos: "Small differences in initial conditions (such as those due to rounding errors in numerical computation) yield widely diverging outcomes for chaotic systems, rendering long-term prediction impossible in general."

Who is proud from IB of this new product?
Well,it's not finalized, it's only in its early beta stage.
          After two years???

vB5 is unequivocally the best forum software, but not yet...

The brand new subforum / forum / activity view. That's the view for the multi task able users, only thing I miss in this view maybe a list of all forum members and all user groups.

Hard to guess what's in Jira and what's working by design.

Ya dont need to guess, just look LOL. And if its something you dont like then post it in jira as an improvement request. End of the day thats what its there for. I kinda have the view that if its posted in there and they dont change it then its their false(as is the case with a lot of vb4 stuff) and if its not posted in there then I have nobody to blame but myself for not adding it in.

Dont get me wrong, I felt vb4 was a disaster. It works well in 4.2 granted, but I dont actually like it. I think it looks old, its as simple as that. So from that point of view I am looking forward to a point where I can move to vb5. The performance is being improved which is a big thing for me, and there are some issues I have with addon creation (primarily the inability to create page prepopulated with widgets), but I do still remain confident.

Actually I will state the reason why I am quite confident rather than just saying I am for a change, as I can see why people dont understand it at times. I remain confident, especially over the past few weeks because things come up, get spoken about, moaned about etc, and those items (and Im not talkin about bugs) are ending up with comments from more senior members of staff at vbulletin within Jira. Things that have previously been low priority have been bumped back up by request, things that were previously ignored are being pushed to the product review guys.

I guess in the end only time will tell, no matter which side of the fence we are on.

I read it all Scott. So fair enough I will rephrase.

Its a view thats logged in Jira as being an issue.

I can understand the sentiments that you don't want to hear "its being worked on" however what is the point in asking a question you don't want the answer to?

I might want to sell it myself as a reseller, but at this point I am sadly disappointed in it and I couldn't for the life of me sell this software with a completely clean conscience. Yes, it is nice IB is now trying to fix things, things that shouldn't have happened to begin with mind you and to be honest, I don't think fixing code is the total solution to the real cause of this current stack of problems and thus why I request to not to be told time and again, "it is being worked on". That just doesn't cut it.

Then why bother asking questions if you don't want to hear the answers? It gets tiring listening to your posts when you refuse to listen to answers.

This said however I would rather us say something and them correct the problem, than what has happened previously which is people say something and it is not addressed. Dont get me wrong, I am just a customer the same as anyone else. However from my point of view it looks a lot nicer, the performance is improving, and the site builder will honestly make my life easier. Nothing more I can give than my honest opinion which is what you asked for from someone who does actually like it.

Dont get me wrong it aint ready yet.. No where near. However every time there is an update things become better than they were in the previous beta. And so long as they are moving forward Im happy with that. When they get to the point where its moved forward enough to upgrade and I have rewritten additions to my site then I will move. Im not sayin that because I'm in the alpha team, because if Im quite honest if I thought otherwise I would simply start lookin elsewhere. I dont have some kind of moral to stay on vbulletin, I would just ditch it and move. Im saying it because I honestly like the feel of it, even though there are bits which need changing and I believe are.

I find the demo quite confusing and slow.

Wow, just found the new comment feature, love it!

I will leave the rest for staff to answer, however this above it doesnt matter who answers. The reason being that you dont listen even when someone answers you as I have done so before and Im sure others have also. However will answer in a little more detail.

                            1. Layout - I do not like vb4, I think its ugly, old, and horrible to work with. VB5 however I like the look of, styling is getting easier with each release, and it looks clean & new.
                            2. Site builder - I do have the ability to create a new page in vb4, fill it with any content I wish etc. However to do so I need to start delving into code, templates, products etc. vb5 means I dont need to do this, and quite rightly I shouldnt need to do this.
                            3. Modules - The ability to add and remove things from pages very easily and save the templates for that page you have setup so you can reuse it is again time saving and that I very much welcome.
                            4. PM system - Yes I know others have already done it in a similar format.... Well great I dont use others I use vb, so for that I am glad it has changed to what it should rightly be
                            5. Photos forum layout - For someone who runs a site which is very image orientated, I want to be able to see all the images from a forum and find them easily and visually without losing the ability to look at the threads as normal. VB5 gives me the ability to do this.
                            6. Removal of static annoyances - I can now have one forum looking different to another. This is excellent as I can have sidebars with relevant content to that forum in different places. I can decide that a block at the top relevant to that forums content can be put in. And above all I can do this with relevant ease.
                            7. Modification creation in blocks - I can see a lot of good uses for this. I can create modifications that people can use in a manor that suits them so they can move things about, without me having to explain to people how to move things about in code.
                            8. Subscribed content - Finally finally finally the content I subscribe to is actually in a useful place. I dont want to (and generally dont) go to my usercp to see what content I have subscribed to.

To be honest the only reason that puts me off is they are not even using it themselves here. When I see this forum upgraded then I may change my mind.
