  • That action cannot be completed - clean 5.0.5 install

First time installation of 5.0.5, clean not upgraded, remote server on my domain.
    PHP version: 5.4.17
    MySQL 5.0.10

Install went perfectly, the page appears fine, no other errors except this one no matter where I try to go:
"That action could not be completed. Please try again, and if this occurs again please contact the system administrator and tell them how you got this message."

Cannot access the ACP via /admincp/
I can access it through /core/admincp/
    • Install folder was deleted as instructed after installation
    • Cleared browser cache and cookies
    • Cleared system cache in ACP
    • Ran "Repair and optimize tables"
    • Ran "Suspect files", which found this:
      • vbulletin-style.xml: File does not contain expected contents
      • LoggerConfigurationAdapterXML.php: File does not contain expected contents

I found a few threads regarding the above message, but the suggest fixes either didn't apply to me, or didn't work for me.

    What am missing?

From the FAQ section of vbulletin.com:

"Minimum Requirements: vBulletin is designed to run on every server that has PHP 5.3 or greater and MySQL 5.1.5 or greater installed. You must also have mod_rewrite, URL Rewrite or equivalent and you must upload the included .htaccess to your server."

Maybe this is the problem here.

hmmmmm..... that could very well be what I'm missing. Must have a little chat with the host....

      Thanks for that.

Okay, checked this out and am now a touch confused. When asked the host about the MySQL version he said:

On your server, we have the following version installed.
Server version: 5.5.34-32.0 Percona Server (GPL), Release rel32.0, Revision 591

Not sure where you are seeing 5.0.10

I told him I see it in my phpinfo page. All instances where it shows a version of MySQL it says 5.0.10. He then said:
OK. That is the client not the server.
The libraries only get updated if there is a security update
or if the package gets updated with the OS. So it is unlikely
that we will be updating the client any time soon.

So I'm not sure where I stand at this point, not being 100% familiar with how servers are configured.

Fixed in the ticket, thanks to Lynne.

BOM (Byte Order Mark) in the front end config file. All sorted now.

Sneaky little devils they are. I hate them. Thanks Mark, and say thanks to Lynne for me.

Further research reveals something I did not know.... that Windows Notepad automatically adds a BOM when a file is saved in UTF-8. I thought my Notepad was using ANSI, but I guess not. :-\
In any case I'll have to start using Notepad++ more often, which lets me choose whether to include a BOM or not.

Microsoft loves the BOM and feels they should be in everything.

TextEdit should be able to do it. I use BBEdit, but I purchased it.

Or you can save the file as ASCII in your Editor. That will work on any OS.
