You could write a custom SQL query to pull that data from the database however this wouldn't be a "one query fits all" solution we could just knock up generically, as it would need to know your Node IDs for the parent channel(s) to work out how many topics had been added. To then get number of posts per topic in those channels would require something more complex.

I'd suggest posting over at www.vbulletin.org, our customisation site, for further help with something like this.

Is it possible to generate a report on which are the most popular channels on out forum. It would be nice to know how many new threads are being started in each channel and also how many posts to each thread.
