  • Subscription Posting Notifications Seem to Have stopped for several users

    I'm on the hosted platform.

I'm getting reports from several of my users that they are no longer receiving emails notifying of subscribed thread activity.

I've reviewed their settings and it seems correct but I'm not expert -level.

Is there a way to do a test or confirm if something is wrong?

I've covered the usual stuff like having them check their spam folders and ensure their email is correct, etc.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Emails are being sent correctly from your account. Your site currently has no queued or unsent emails. Are these people visiting your site and the topics that they are getting notifications for? In addition to this, what are the usernames of the individuals having problems?

Two user names in particular: SJay and AKrigley are two that have mentioned they aren't getting emails. I confirmed that they are subscribed to the forums/discussions and seemingly should be getting emails.

sjay noted that SOME emails arrive and others do not. AKrigley mentioned they stopped completely. Mine seem to be working fine.

The reason they mentioned they aren't getting the notifications is they will sporadically login and see that activity happened on threads and noted they didn't get notified.

      Thanks for checking.

        Wayne,

I may have discovered the "cause" this morning by accident. There was a post that occured for which I didn't get a notification for and I realized that it was a new topic in an established channel.

The channel was one that I was "subscribed" to but the thread was new and it showed as unsubscribed.

If you are subscribed to a channel, doesn't that trickle down and mean that any/all topics are also subscribed/notified on? If not, is there a setting to enable that?

As you no doubt noticed, our forum is small and many users just want to be notified of ANY activity and we collectively thought that by subscribing to all the channels would accomplish that. Maybe that's incorrect?

I'm going to follow up with my users to see if that's why they get SOME but not all email notifications of activity.

Any help or advice for auto-subscribing to any/all threads, channels and activity is welcomed. Thanks.

It really depends on your settings on the Notifications tab of the User Account page. If you're set to Daily or Weekly Digest, you will not receive automatic notifications of topics within a channel that you're subscribed to. Email Notifications need to be set to On.

Notifications are also listed automatically in the user's Message Center and will be listed in the header of every page.

Understood. Emails are set to ON.

When you subscribe to a channel - doesn't that mean you by default subscribe to all the existing and future topics in that channel? I think that is that problem as I look at it more.

How does one subscribe to all current and future topics if not by subscribing to the entire channel?

There is a limitation in the current version. If your users are subscribed to the QXV Owners Forum on your site, they will not be automatically subscribed to all the sub-channels. They need to subscribe to each one.

However, they still might not receive a notification for every new post. They will receive exactly one notification per topic until they visit they site again. This is done by design.

I've made a database change on the two users listed above to test something. Let me know if they report any changes.

OK, but like in my case, I'm subscribed to every channel. But when a new topic is created within that channel I don't get a notification about it. Only if I subscribe to the new channel, or reply to it since I have "subscribe when posting" selected, will I get subscribed.

What is the subscription at the channel level for if not to subscribe to everything within it? Maybe I'm misunderstanding how that is supposed to work.

EDIT: Thank you for the changes, I will reach out to them to see if there is a difference.
