  • Not able to upload picture or attachments in Topics

    Hi vBulletin Support Team,

I am writing to ask about the error message "this is not a valid image file" whenever I try to upload a picture on vBulletin's topics. I have turned on all the settings under "picture uploading permissions". I also set the maximum height/width to 12000+ pixels and the image size to 1000000+ bytes. I would appreciate any help on this.

Similarly, whenever I try to add an attachment in Topics, the attachment wouldn't show up in the post. Specifically, it shows that the attachment is uploaded, but it just won't show up in the actually post after I hit the "post" button. Thank you for your help!

Here are some additional info to give you more context:
    1. Version: 5.6.4
    2. Image setting: GD -> GD resize quality = 100
    3. Attachment type manager -> we included all the major picture types (jpe; jpeg; jpg; png etc).
    4. The pictures we are trying to upload are all regular image formats (e.g., jpeg; png etc).

vBulletin will not allow a 12000 X 12000 pixel file to be uploaded. The maximum is 4063 X 4063.

However, are you sure the image is the same as its extension? Just because the extension says it is a GIF or JPG, it doesn't mean that is actually the case. We check this.
Did you create this image or find it on the web? If found, it is possible that someone has inserted malware into the image's meta data and that is preventing it from being uploaded.

What is the result of the File Upload diagnostic in under Maintenance -> Diagnostics in the AdminCP?

Hi Wayne, thanks for your response! I have changed the pixel size to 4063x4063. I also checked the extension of the pictures - it seems like they are indeed all in JPG/PNG format. Some of the pictures were created online, but others are pictures taken using my personal phone.

Here's the file upload diagnostics result: "PHP's open_basedir setting has been set to E:\Websites. The uploaded file was stored outside of this directory and is not readable. You will need to contact your host and ask them to specify upload_tmp_dir with a directory inside E:\Websites. Note that PHP must be able to read and write to this directory."

I appreciate your time and help!

The web host will have to move the open_basedir and tmp directory into a location that can be written to by your web server user. There is no way for vBulletin to get around this.
