  • Posting multiple photos in a thread reply

Hi All. I'm hoping someone could help with what is probably a simple question. I am on the hosted version of vBulletin, which means we are on version 5.6.1

When making a post, if a user hits the "Image" icon to insert an image into the reply, they are only able to click one photo and then they have to hit the "Upload to server" and then do the same thing again if they want to insert another photo in the reply.

I saw in some of my research that you are supposed to be able to use "shift" or "ctrl" to select multiple images to be uploaded but it doesn't seem to be working.

Is that a setting I need to change in the admin tool?

To be clear, I'm not talking about uploading multiple photos into your personal profile photo album - that seems to allow multiple photos to be added at once. I'm talking about making a post just like I'm doing right now (I confirmed I couldn't do it on this reply either)

Any help or advice is very appreciated.

    Thanks.

I looked at the HELP link from our hosted forum and this is the excerpt from the help files regarding photos. It certainly doesn't seem to working in this manner:

To upload new photos press the Upload button and browse to the images you wish to upload. You may add multiple images by using standard "shift & click" or "control & click" options to select multiple files. To upload additional images press Upload More, otherwise press Continue.

The insert image inline tool allows one image at a time.

Multiple Images can be uploaded by...

      1. Click on the Camera (Top Left) to create a Photo Gallery post and gain the ability to upload multiple images at one time. Photos in a Gallery cannot be used inline.
      2. Click the Attachment icon (Top Right) to allow attachments that can be inserted inline. This will open the Attachments panel that allows multiple images/files to be uploaded at once.
      3. Click on the images in your operating systems file browsing tool (i.e. File Explorer or Finder) and drag them over an vBulletin Editor. Drop the files and they will be uploaded.

Thanks Wayne. I think I understand. Is there anyway to update the help directions as they seem misleading?

You can edit the help text in your AdminCP under "Help (User Manual)".

            Wayne,

When I started writing a "tutorial" for my forum regarding how to upload multiple pictures and update the user manual per your suggestion above - I realized there is a 5 picture/attachment limit per post on my forum that I can't seem to find a setting for anywhere. Is that something I can change or is that hardcoded somewhere?

As a reminder, I'm on the hosted version. I'd really like to get that to at least 10 but I can't find the setting anywhere.

It is a channel permission per usergroup. Channel Management -> Channel Permissions.

If you are not using custom permissions on your channels, you can change this value in the Home channel and all other channels will inherit the change. For any channel with customized permissions, you will need to edit that channel manually.
              • Customized permissions show in Red.
                • Except on the Home Channel. This is the default so you can't really customize the permissions, just change them.
              • Inherited Permissions show in Orange.

Thank you. I found the location of the setting, and discovered that it was already set to 15. So it would appear that the "upload to your media" is the item that is limited to 5 as opposed to making a post to a thread - where I have confirmed that my users can upload more than 5.

Is the media/photo album setting something different than when actually making a post?

Thanks again for the help and attention.

Change the value on the Special -> Albums channel. On a default install, registered users are set to 0 for unlimited (see the inline help). However Administrators are set to 5 images for some reason. Not sure why.

You lost me on the Special -> Albums channel path. I can't find that setting, can you help with the full path?

Will the users inherit the increased Admin capability? I was having the same problems logged in as a normal user so not sure an Admin permission change will solve.

It is a channel, not settings.

Channel Management -> Channel Permissions.... Scroll down to Special -> Albums.

Users will not inherit Administrator Channel Permissions unless they are in the Administrator usergroup. You shouldn't give random people Administrator Channel permissions. I just mentioned it because the Administrator usergroup is limited to 5 images per post for some reason. I don't know why. If you want to add more than 5 images per post as an Administrator, you will need to increase this value. Registered users are actually allowed unlimited images per post on their albums in a default install.

Thanks, I'm not interested in giving random people admin rights.

Edited: I went through and adjusted all usergroups following the path above - and it appears to have fixed it.

                        Thanks again.

Then it is probably a bug and should be logged as such in the Issue Tracker following the Tracker link in the header. That is the only place it can be changed in the AdminCP.
