  • Notifications Marker for Moderation Notifications

I always like to ask and comment here on a need before creating a ticket, because it never fails that it's always in the ticket system under some different freaking name or technical description...

We seem to never have a notification marker (and for years now) when there are notifications under "moderation" notifications. Thus, this leads to ALWAYS having to visit the notification section to double check manually.

Wayne, if such a ticket that already exists, can you please link that here so I can vote/comment. If there isn't one, can you let me know and or create one for this? I'll be glad to create one, but I fear it will just be pointed to something already existing.

Bottom line... we need this notification marker to pop up if/when there are notifications in the moderation section.

    Thanks!

The software doesn't have this functionality, however there is a feature request somewhere to add it back in.

I think this fix may be coming real soon. Hopefully not only will it notify us but we’ll also have the option to get an email as well

I hope so. I cannot find any related ticket to upvote. If either of you know the ticket, please post the link for me. Thanks.

This is being added to 5.6.1 - Here is the issue report - https://tracker.vbulletin.com/vbulle...sues/VBV-10831

We're not removing previews and it will work a little differently than described due to the addition of vBulletin Messenger between the time the issue was written and implemented. There are several duplicates in the system as well but they will also be closed.

How it will work is this:

If you have vBulletin Messenger enabled, you will get a drop down menu for notifications these will be broken up into notifications, reports, unapproved/moderated, etc... If an item doesn't have any items, it will not be shown. The list will update automatically up to 6 times a minute. Just like the vBulletin Messenger drop down does.

If you have vBulletin Messenger off, it will work pretty much the way it does now. It will be updated every page load and won't be broken down. At least as far as I am aware so far. I haven't been able to play with it directly yet.

Will there be an option to also receive an email if so desired?

Moderators can already receive emails for every new topic or post created in their assigned areas. This would include posts that are automatically moderated for whatever reason. In the AdminCP go to Channel Management -> Moderator Permissions. Just be warned if the moderator is actually a Super Moderator or Administrator, this can be a lot of emails.

Using the standard notification system, I get notifications on every moderated post in my subscribed forums. This works on both the web and mobile client. I suspect if I turned on emails, I would get those emails as well.

What doesn't happen currently is that I don't get a list of the different types of notifications (moderated, reported, replies, requests, etc...) on every page of the site.

I would like an email notification to let me know that posts are pending in moderation only. Not an email for every post on the forum

That would require another feature request in the tracker.

I was hoping the upcoming notification fix would include that. It has been mentioned on past posts. This way we don't have to sign onto the forum to look

This is one of those things that is useful for a lot of forums and not so much for others. I moderate posts once a day and people can wait. I have no interest in making anyone think I am at their beckon call every time they post something that requires moderation. Nor do I care to receive emails about every forum issue. I do understand why other forums operate differently.

Oh I see.. You actually have a real life outside of the forum.

Or at least I pretend to. I really dislike having people think I ask, "How high?", every time they tell me to jump. But none of my forums is a source of income either. Other people do both take money and make money from their forums. I do neither.

                        I've created this issue: https://tracker.vbulletin.com/vbulle...sues/VBV-20102

It will discussed at either today's or Monday's bug review board. It will be placed in either Backlog or BRB Future Release. The only way to elevate it will be through community votes.

That would be a nice option to have. Hopefully others feel that way.. Mrs.T
