You don't have to compile it. How you install Sphinx on your server is your choice. We do not cover that under support at all. Once you have it installed, the most up to date instructions can be found in your do_not_upload folder. That is all the information we have available at the moment.
We support Sphinx 2.4 and higher at this time as far as I am aware.
Changing to Sphinx search will not change the results provided in a search. It will operate exactly like the default search. The only benefit of Sphinx is to offload your search to a separate machine (virtual or otherwise) to reduce the load on your database.

Sphinx search
Hi,
As everybody knows the default search engine is not vbulletin finest hour.
I tried several time to migrate to sphinx search but the tutorials and other guides are really messed up. You don't even know wich version of sphinx is supported and other stuff like that.
Plus you actually have to compile sphinx although you could get it way more easily with a basic yum or apt-get command line.
WWould it be possible to have an update version of sphinx search tutorials ? I seriously doubt anyboby would be able achieve a working integration with the current information.Tags: None
