when I access the sitemap link, it does not open the page, but the contents of the page are downloaded.

how do I show the content on the page in the browser?

The sitemap is an XML file. You need an XML reader to view the contents. Browsers do not read XML unless they are instructed to do so using PHP.

As above, the sitemap is designed to be read by search engines, not browsers.

I'm stuck. I don't think my website has a sitemap. MY SEO on Alexa is failing miserably. How can I fix this?

You can generate a sitemap for your site in the AdminCP under XML Site Map. Visit your favorite search engines for information on submitting them to the sites. However the Sitemap will not help your Alexa Rating. Alexa Ratings are based on how many people link to your unique content.
