Strange issue where was unable to post into PMs on just one computer, Chrome browser

On one of my iMacs only, and only on Chrome browser, I was unable to post anything into the vbmessenger private message window at the bottom - it was blank and the words
Write something...
were not there.

I kept clicking around and this weird image suddenly appeared in the PM box at bottom, and clicking on the image took me to some sponsored spam webpage. I ran malwarebytes and avast but didn't find anything of note.

I deleted all cookies on Chrome, no help. Then I restored Chrome to factory default settings, and started working normally again.

Just posting it here in case anyone else has had this issue.

You probably had a Chrome addon that caused that issue.

With this new version of Chrome Version 59.0.3071.109 (Official Build) (64-bit) I can't find out how to do much without effort. Relearning the settings.

If the "Write Something" doesn't disappear when you start typing, then it is most likely a Javascript error on page load. Refresh the page to see if it clears up. To be clear myself, just clicking in the Editor doesn't remove the Write Something in my experience. You have to start typing something.

When this issue occurred, the "Write Something" was not there at all, and I could not type anything into the box.

Sounds like a Javascript error. Maybe something on that machine is blocking Javascript, or parts of it.
