Looking at the screenshots above, it appears you have some third-party addon installed that allows choosing an Avatar. The default dialog looks like this:

Name:	2020-01-06_9-36-07.png
Views:	84
Size:	31.1 KB
ID:	4431043

When choosing "Use Default Avatar", the user will be using this Avatar:

Name:	default_avatar_large.png
Views:	66
Size:	8.4 KB
ID:	4431044

Hey Wayne Luke , could this be a hangover from VB3 and the upgrade process? I upgraded from 3.8.11 to 5.1.6 and my users also have the option to "Use a default avatar" but the links are all broken. The image paths point to directory ./forum/core/images/avatars which has a Thumbs folder and an index.html file but no actual images. That folder is included in the vb5 installation files but the "default" avatars are not. You can see what I see in the attached image. Mark.B has suggested the only way to remove this option is to change the code but that begs the question, if this is not part of the default codebase, and I have not installed any add-ons to my VB5, where is it coming from? Any suggestions.

That feature wasn't brough forward. Though it appears some work was done on bringing it forward and never removed. Will have to enter a bug report on this.

I know this thread is three years old, but I was actually just looking at a way to solve this issue since we also have the "Use a Default Avatar" option showing on our site and one of our users asked me about it this week.

          Two options:
          1. If you want to continue using them, the user can right click on the avatar that is shown in the options. and then paste the link into the field above for "Copy and paste an image URL from a hosting site." This will set the user's avatar to the one selected from the list.
          2. If you want to get rid of the options entirely, delete the entries from the table Avatar in the database. once this table is empty, the option disappears.
If you really want to go crazy, you can maintain entries in the Avatar table manually and they will be added to the list and then you can use option 1 above.
