By my current settings, if a user is not logged in, they don't see posted pictures, but rather, links to those pictures. How can I change this to allow non-logged in users to see the pictures rather than the links? I think my website would look much more attractive to sign up for if they could see the images posted in the threads.

You need to give guest users permissions to view and download attachments in the usergroup settings.Translations provided by Google.

I just upgraded my Forum from V4 to the latest V5.
The upgrade worked and the board is up and running. Problem, non of the images from old posts are showing IF NOT logged in.
