  • Created a new forum and not showing up

    Hi,

I've created a new forum and it is not visible, only by a direct link. Is this a bug with 5.0.4? Will it be fixed in 5.0.5?

What is its display order set to? Display Order of 0 has always hidden forums in vBulletin.

Display order is set to 1, I have also set some forums up that didnt show up, they eventually do but only when logged in. So i am not sure who can see them and who can't It's not permission based as these also can be accessed via direct link.

Now the forum is visible, why is it taking two days to show up? It is not visible when not logged in though still?

Guys i don't mean to moan but your support is dire. Seems you only really reply to things that are user error and not the real issues. Quick to take the money, not so quick to help out.

Forum Permissions control whether a forum is visible when logged in or not. In Admin CP -> Channel Management -> Channel Permissions, find the forum (channel) having the issue, go to the Unregistered / Not Logged In group and click the Edit link.

There is an option "Can View Channel" make sure it is set to yes. If it is set to No then guests won't see it.

There is no reason I can think of a setting would change over the course of 2 days without someone actually making a change, unless the cache needed to be cleared for some reason. Anytime anything is fishy in VB5 always try clearing the cache (also in the Admin CP) just to see if it helps.

              Thanks for the reply Joe,

I have checked the permissions, its set to "Yes". I cleared my cache and still not viewable when not logged in.

It's a forum in the traders section, "Abbey Motorsports" not showing up.

I had the same issue when creating the "Fensport" one and it came viewable eventually after not changing anything.

The abbey forum is yet to do this though.

Do you have a parent channel with different permissions, which may affect the sub-channel?

Did you create it as a channel in "Channel Management > Add a new forum > Act as channel" and not as a category?

There is no Parent channel, it is just in a category it's most definitely set to act as a channel. Quite frankly it doesn't make sense...

EDIT: Infact I lie, the one i was initially talking about does have a parent, but the permissions are the same on both the parent and child.

Then this is pretty weird and it looks like someone from the support staff has to look into this (with an account to your site/AdminCP).

What is the parent of your created forums? In order to be forums they must be under Forums. They cannot be under Home.

Sorry about the delays in responses, I am still not used to having to manually subscribe to every thread and miss some when in a hurry.
