  • Trying to import a large board 200K members and 750K posts, impex times out

    Hi,

I'm looking for a way to import the old UBB threads 6.5 site into the vB4.2 system. Impex is timing out. I've even opened multiple sessions to get it done faster (I hope) and still all time out.

Steps I've done to fix it after talking with support:

    1. edited php.ini and made max_execution_time = 6000 (100 min)
    2. Raised memory limit to 1024M
    3. in Apache, also increased timeout by a lot
    4. mySQL, don't know what to do there? Everything is default and I don't know what to edit actually

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

When you say timing out, what is timing out exactly? Are you getting a specific error?

Also are you running the import via a browser, or CMD?

Ok Ok OK, I actually called support to ask if I can run impex from cmd line and they said you cannot?! Can I? I would prefer that over the browser anytime! Can somebody give me tips on how to do that?

I'd doing it via browser, and I get an empty browser after a few minutes...

Actually this is what's happening now.

I cannot even see the Impex script anymore because as soon as I load it again (after it times out and the database is no longer adding users since I'm monitoring it) it starts again loading (after I log back in or refresh) But I have not been able to see the actual normal (option list with buttons page of impex) since I started the User Import.

Impex doesn't have a cli option.

A blank page can mean a number of things, is error display enabled? IF not are you logging errors?

Not sure how to log errors? Where do I add that option and where would the errors be? Or do u mean in var/errors?

You can look at the php.ini file, and you should double check a phpinfo file.

Create a file called info.php add the following code
                Code:
                <?php phpinfo(); ??
put it on the server and browse the file, check to make sure error_display is set to on. Also make sure your changes to the php.ini are being recognized.
