  • Import really messed up the forum...

Of course I did backup before importing, so restore is being performed.

We were importing from a 3.8.6 to 3.8.6. We grabbed the DB from the other forum's server and restored it to a new database on our server.

I then proceeded to do the import. I appeared all was going well... strumming right along through all the modules.

I noticed all of them were reading Redo Module instead of Start Module. Perhaps from the previous Impex import I did from another forum?

Anyway... after the import we lost about 27,000 members and all of our mods, a bunch of threads, posts, etc.

Something went really crazy, that is for sure.

What possibly could have happened? Is it perhaps something to do with the fact that we have done an import previously?

    Thanks!

I'm pretty sure this is covered in the docs for Impex. You don't want to re run the modules.

Great to hear you've got a backup.

The question would be... why did they already have "Redo" buttons?

I am assuming this has something to do with the previous import of another board. It thought I was trying to redo those modules.

Obviously I need to clean out that old import, but I am not clear as to how to do this without it messing up my current board. The instructions are not clear on this.

From the look of it you need to upgrade your forum and not do it with the Impex. That is used when you convert from another software to vb.

Impex is also used to merge two vBulletin boards, which is what we are doing. Both boards are already upgraded to the latest version. We have two databases to merge.

Ah ok. Sorry for misunderstanding you. I thought that you wanted to upgrade your forum.

              No problem...

My main concern right now is cleaning out that old Impex without messing up our current database/forum.

IMHO, the instructions are quite clear, Jerry was very good at his job. See post #2 for details.

Doing what you're doing 3.8 to 3.8 can indeed be done as you're doing it. But, you shouldn't be doing it on a live forum that means something to you and things can be lost if you're unsure of the process. We test first, it's easy enough to test first.

I have a ticket open and trying to get clarification, but will post the same here.

I guess this is where I am confused and never got clarification on our previous import from a thread I started back then. It was told to me that I did not need to worry about cleaning up if I did not plan to do any more imports.... see the following post: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php/364855-Impex-completed-but-a-few-confusing-issues...?p=2058842&viewfull=1#post2058842

Notice that Steve stated the following when I asked about Removing importids: "The second one won't and is only needed if you are importing more than one database."

Of course at the time, we had no plans to import another database, so I did not do the cleanup. Apparently I should have ignored his implication and done it anyway.

NOW... that we are after the fact... I need help understanding how exactly I need to clean up the old import. Should I take all the "source" information out of the impex config file and just leave my "target" board info in there... start the Impex in AdmimCP and Clean Database?

Will this mess up anything on my current board?

                  Thanks!

OK... so I loaded our database on our test board and cleaned up the old importids.

I have now started the import for testing and get the following:

Possibly custom tables or incorrect prefix :

                    regimage NOT found.

Is this anything to be concerned with?

I am proceeding since this is a test board, but would like to know before I do the import on the live board, if anyone can help.

                    Thanks!

I have the exact same error. Advice?
