  • SMF 2 RC3 to VB4.1 - Import Post timeout

    Hey all,

    We've gone about importing our SMF2 forums back to VB4 and have had a huge clunker with the import system when we get to the post import process - everything works fine up until this part.

    The process consistently gets through around 1,300,000 of the circa 1,400,000 posts and then times out. This occurs with a small refresh count or a large one, and is consistently around this number (give or take 100 or so posts). Our trouble shooting shows it is not a single post that is causing the issue, so there is no errant data, but we possibly suspect a cache, or memory use issue.

    In any event, as a result of this timeout, the import option in the admin panel is no longer available, and now times out just like the import posts stage did. Is there any suggestions as to how we can get past this issue, or of any particular reason that this would be caused?

    Thanks in advance!

    This may be a server time and/or memory limit. To increase your limits edit your includes/config.php file and add these lines right under the <?php line:

    ini_set('memory_limit', -1);
    ini_set("max_execution_time", "2880");

      Thanks Steve,

      Another attempt tried, and another failed though with the changed settings made....

        That one really is a server issue. You'll need to contact your host.

          Thanks Steve, we had one offending post that had a full Google Image link in it...... :S Not a bad waste of a week or two thanks to some guy who could have just posted the image instead of the full google image link..........

          Anyway, we're underway now, so appreciate your time.
