  • Impex stopping on step 1

Im "cleaning" an old installation by installing a fresh copy of vBulletin and getting rid of a lot of old and unused plugins and modules. I planned to use Impex to transfer the userdata and threads from my old database to the new one, but I get the following error on the first step:

    Altering tables
ImpEx will now Alter the tables in the vB database to include import id numbers. This is needed during the import process for maintaining references between the tables during an import. If you have large tables (i.e. lots of posts) this can take some time. They will also be left after the import if you need to link back to the original vB userid.

I have verified that the prefix is correct, and that the database connection works. Does anyone have any idea why I get this error? The old database was at version 3.6.8.

Don't use ImpEx! You should always remove modifications via the uninstallation instructions and upgrade normally.

ImpEx is not a database cleaner. It changes all userids, postids forumids and threadids. It breaks links in search engines as well as any links posted in your forums.

ImpEx is for importing from a different software or merging multiple vBulletin forums into one.

New Add on domain necessitates move?

Kerry (whoever), just found this - my import also stops at 'step1', i'm trying to import 3.8.0 to a fresh install of 3.8.1.

Are you saying disable / uninstall all mods and simply connect prior db to new installation (via backup)? I've a new add-on domain on the same server, different location and wish to simply "mirror" what is already there (then redirect to new when done),

am thinking for mod php files copy entire contents of "old domain" to new not allowing any overwrites? (then reinstall all mod xmls?) It's either that or what?

Rename dirs so newdomain points to old install and put old domain on redirect?

Impex is not for upgrading. It is not for server moving. It is not a database cleaner.

You should not be even attempting to use ImpEx for this.
