Thank you to Jerry for taking a look at my issue and helping me resolve the import problem.

It seems that I had an incorrect configuration setting for importing YABB forums. The setting should have been:

    ####
    #
    # DUPLICATE CHECKING
    # Where unique import id's are aviable ImpEx can check for duplicates with some
    # Tier2 systems this will need to be set to false.
    #
    # yahoo_groups, YaBB 2.1, Ikonboard 3.1.5 (for attachments)
    #
    ####

    define('dupe_checking', false);
My import from YABB 2.1 was a success!

If there is no email, they will not be imported.

    Yes. I did make this change: define('step_through', true);

I saw three users that had the "email" error. Since they had not logged in for a long time I deleted them. When running the process again I was told that 2 failed but dont know which two.

I will open up a support ticket and ask for you.

    Thanks!

If you set the ImpExConfig to :

    PHP Code:
    define('step_through'true);
Then you can read the errors of the users, typically no email address.

As for the failed forums, they are imported and linked with the category by name opposed to an id, so it might be an error there. Though I'd need access to the server to double check and fix that.

Start a support ticket and ask for me.

I have been trying some test imports and have run into a few problems. When migrating the users I selected "Real Name" and "yes" at the prompts. I saw no error notices but at the end it says that two users failed the transfer. (Is 'real name' and 'yes' the options I should use? - This may not be a big deal depending on which two users failed)

The next issue I am having is importing the forums.

I have five categories: (these all seemed to transferr ok)
    find_musicians
    for_sale
    shop_talk
    admin_area
    general_chat

When importing the forums I get errors.
Here are the names of the forums that FAILED:

    just_BS
    Schmooze
    Business
    Comments
    Eq_Reviews
    Songs_Lyrics
    Theory
    For_sale
    Recycle_bin
    global_announcements

Are there any other error logs that I can look at? Do I need to open a support ticket or is there someone here that can assist me? Thanks...

    FYI: (per the posting guidlines)
    Type of import: CLEAN
Source board system and version: YABB 2.1
    Target version: VBULLETIN 3.6.8
Module issue occurred on: IMPORT OF FORUMS
    Any SQL error reported: NO
    __________________________________________

    Here is the category/forum structure:

    general_chat
    >just_BS
    >Schmooze
    >Business
    >Comments

    find_musicians
    >Charleston
    >East_Panhandle
    >North_Central
    >Northern_Panhandle
    >Parkersburg
    >Southern

    shop_talk
    >Eq_Reviews
    >Songs_Lyrics
    >Theory

    for_sale
    >For_sale

    admin_area
    >Recycle_bin
    >global_announcements

I see that impex started with the 'find_musicians' category first when transfering the forums. When the forums were being processed they were done so in alphabetical order. Do I assume that the next import would have been the 'for_sale' category? Is it a problem that the category and forum have the same name? I assume impex doesn't import the 'admin_area' category, correct?

    Ok. Thanks again.

I password protected the directory. I wouldn't have thought of doing so. I see why it would be important.

    I found a generator here:

    Thnx, Kev

If your server has cPanel or Plesk then you can set it up through there by going to Password Protect Directory or Lock Directory. Otherwise, there are many htaccess and htpassword generators which can be found through google that you can use to create the two files required then you need to upload them to your testvb directory.

    Ok. Thank you.

I will install the test forum at:
    html/testvb

Im not familiar with what "behind htaccess password protection" is. Is this something special I need to set up?

    Thanks, Kev

Yes, you can set up a second vBulletin forum for testing your import. Please make sure that it is in a directory named testvb and is behind htaccess password protection.

During the import process you will be asked to enter the paths to your yabb files. These will need to be the full server paths. If they are incorrect, then nothing will import and/or you will receive messages to say that you have the wrong path/file not found.

started a topic Impex from Yabb 2.1 to vB 3.6.8

Impex from Yabb 2.1 to vB 3.6.8

Hello. I am working on getting my Yabb 2.1 forum over to VB. I have VB installed on my website and setup... I just need to migrate the data.

I have read through the impex instructions...

To do a test import I can load a second instance of VB on the same server but will have to use a different database, correct?

    My VB install is here:
    html/forum

I can load a test forum here?:
    html/forum_test

I did a full backup of my Yabb 2.1 and copied the data back to the server into different folders.

My active Yabb forum is here:
    cgi-bin/yabb2
    html/public_html2

My backed up forum data is here:
    cgi-bin/yabb2_test
    html/public_html2_test

Does impex ask me for the source path durring the process or do I need to specify the folder locations beforehand?

    Thanks, Kev
