    The only reliable method of restoring a database is with shell access via telnet or ssh. This is because restoring with a PHP script like that in phpMyAdmin can result in PHP timeout errors and an incomplete database. Please see the instructions here:

    http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...ce_ssh_restore

    Note: Some people have reported success with these scripts:

    MySQLDumper:
    http://www.mysqldumper.de/en/index.php

    MySQLHotxcopy:
    http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...t=mysqlhotcopy

    Bigdump (restore only):

    Sorry to bump this but I have been struggling with ImPex all day to no avail.

    I have an sql backup of my old forum and a brand new vB waiting for data.

    So...from this thread, I am realizing I can use phpmyadmin to import my sql, without having to work with ImPex?

    If someone could:

    - confirm this
    - point me to a PRECISE tutorial how to do this in phpmyadmin

    I would appreciate it. Thanks!

    Can you get a back up from the source again with out the charset specifics.

    You can also edit the file to remove the :

    "ENGINE = MYISAM DEFAULT CHARSET = utf8"

    probably on all the tables.

    Looks like the backup is from mysql 4.1 and I am trying to import to 4.0. Would this issue be solved if I were trying to upload via Shell?

    Would this version compatibility issue be with the mysql or the vB? Super noob... sorry.

    Looks like you have a version compatability issue, from the version you took the backup from and where you are trying to restore it to.

    I'd read these and get another back up :

    http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...nce_ssh_backup

    http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...tabase_restore

    http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/mysqldump.html

    I have attemtpted to import via phpmyadmin and here is what I get...

    SQL query:
    CREATE TABLE `access` ( `userid` int( 10 ) unsigned NOT NULL default '0',
    `forumid` smallint( 5 ) unsigned NOT NULL default '0',
    `accessmask` smallint( 5 ) unsigned NOT NULL default '0',
    PRIMARY KEY ( `userid` , `forumid` )
    ) ENGINE = MYISAM DEFAULT CHARSET = utf8;

    MySQL said:
    #1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8' at line 6

    What is the issue here... is this the right method?

    Importing from Backup with .sql file

    Hi,

    I did a backup via the admincp Back up tool and now have the file. I am looking to import it in to a separate site for testing. How can I import it into a new install?
