Hi All,

I have been running phpBB2 board for the past couple of years, and although small by most standards, the forum is very active and pretty much the only one in it's niche.

The extra options available with VB were becoming increasingly tempting and I decided to stump up and buy a licence. The software is installed at my host and I have tweaked the look to suit my site. I have a few user accounts (approx 3-5) and some forums/posts which I used to get a feel for how VB worked. These can be overwritten.

I am now in a position where I would like to import the existing forum but am petrified! I have read through the Impex instructions a few times, but wondered if anyone might be kind enough to 'hold my hand' through the process.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks Jerry, I was looking for someone I could call on that had been through it before. The instructions are a little daunting!

Anyway, I have managed to do the import but all of the imported users seem to be in the COPPA awaiting reg group and cannot post...I guess there is an easy fix. I will start to search, but if you can point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated!

from what I have read I need to remove the user group that they are in and they will automatically revert to the registered users group. I had expected to see them as a member of something other than the COPPA group? Should this be removed?

Sorry for asking such daft questions, but this adminCP is so much more involved than the phpBB one! It's making my eyes boggle!!!

if I go here : users...search for users...list new registrations

I see a list of all my imported users...surely I don't have to go through each one and register tham manually do I?

All the users should be in their own imported user group in the user group manager, if you delete that group they will all be moved to the normal registered group.

Looks like newshounds is your phpBB usergroup ? If so, delete it and all the users will be moved to the registered group.

when I show primary or additional users for this group I only see 4 of my 600 users...? The other 596 don't seem to show in any of the groups....is this expected?

updated via SQL directly on database, changed usergroupid in vb_users to correct group ref.

Hopefully this will have sorted it (fingers crossed)

That is a dangerous thing to do.

Deleting the usergroup to move the users to the registered group is the advised way.

agreed, but as my previous post, the users were all in the COPPA group, and I was concerned that deleting this group (if at all possible?) would have had an ill effect on things...?

The update statement seems to have worked OK, and the users can now post to the board. I am curious as to why my users were imported into COPPA? Any thoughts?

Well if they are all out of COPPA and are showing on the members list now that should be it.
