So Confused!

Hi,

I am trying to import from Groupee Community (eve) and am not doing well.

I don't understand how to "set up a development board" or how to test out importing a few times before I do the actual thing.

I also don't understand how to get the import option under the admin control panel.

Could somebody please help?? I'm not good with this stuff at all

Also, I was using the Groupee Universal Login, (with this, users logged in with their e-mail address, not username) so will users now login with a username and not an e-mail address?

Oh, also, I have a .gz backup of my eve database... do I do anything with this?

Setting up a development/test board means installing vBulletin again to test the imports on, though if you are new to vBulletin and you don't have a board already, just test the import into that one as ImpEx can clean up after itself if you need to re-run the import.

In the ImpEx download there is a XML file called cpnav_impex.xml upload that to yourforum/includes/xml folder.

I'm not aware of that method of login, the eve/groupee uses the USERNAME field for the username in vBulletin. The schema may of changed as there has been times when I've been updating the importer daily to keep up with the changes, if its changed again I would need to see the eve database.

Yes, you will need to restore that to a database so that ImpEx can read from it.

One more question, how do members get their passwords (I assume they are changed since they are encrypted with Groupee) once I have imported the data?

Okay, we have some problems...

When I imported users, it made every users e-mail address, not their username. Also, when I viewed all members, some don't have e-mail addresses under their e-mail address field.

Also, when I import the forums and categories, it says it does it, however, it never shows up.

This is the same with threads... it says it imports them, but they never show up (although, even if they did import, would they show up since the forums aren't showing up? I am trying to import the forums FIRST, before the threads)

Have you saved the forum display order to rebuild the forum cache and update it with all the new forum details ?

It is possible that the eve dB schema has changed again and I might need to update it, its very much a cat and mouse game keeping that system up to date.

Go to the forum manager in the admincp :

AdminCP -> Forums & Moderators -> Forum Manager-> "Save Display Order"

Okay, great, they are displaying now.

However, there are still 2 problems:

None of them

Let me rephrase this... when I imported the users, it did not import their usernames... instead what it did is this, it made their e-mail address their username.

Example, "Bob" is registered at my current forums with the e-mail address [email protected]

I imported him with the users, however, his username "bob" didn't get imported. For his username it put [email protected]

Also, for some of these users, the e-mail address is ONLY in their username field, in their e-mail address field they have nothing

Scratch that... the posts are there, however, they are all dated 1969... I couldn't see them since I only had it showing posts from the past 30 days

The post are, or the threads are ? Have you run all the updated counters ?
