  • importing phpbb db to vbb 3.0.7

ok i just got my license and install impex which i was told could import my database from phpbb to vbb

so i made a backfrom in the phpbb admin panel
but i never get asked for this
this is a part i need since it contains the users and forum layout !!

    am i missing something ?
or is it really necessary to have phpbb still installed to import the users , forums , posts etc....

    Thanks

You need the database to be able to connect to it to do the import.
    I wrote ImpEx.

You need to phpBB datase, you dont need the phpBB files.

You need to restore the phpBB backup file to a new database. It has to be a real database for vB to be able to read and import the data.

The only reliable method of restoring a database is with shell access via telnet or ssh. Please see the instructions here:

                http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...ce_ssh_restore

damn , non of it makes sense to me anymore i am never gonna be able to move the db to vbb , pretty useless i bought the license
the manual doesnt even make sense to me since it doesnt explain how it really works

and impex in vbb keeps giving me this error when i click import/export
Connection to source server failed. Check username and password.

Is your phpBB forum on your current server? Can you access it? If yes look at your config file for phpBB

Now edit the impexconfig.php file in the impex folder and add your phpBB details for the source side. Make sure sourceexsists = true is on.

                    Now proceed with the import.

                      CNB-
I just ported mine over to vb last week-
                      It's fairly simple process-

You need to have the phpbb forums still up and running -

then in the impex dir there is a file called
                      ImpExConfig.php
                      edit this file
                      PHP Code:
                      Target Database ]
The following settings allow ImpEx to connect to the vBulletin 3
database into which you will be importing data.
                      ;
                      ; If
impex is installed in vBulletin you can ignore the target details
                      ; as includes/config.php

// this is the new VB install
                      targetdatabasetype  mysql
                      targetserver
                      localhost
                      targetuser
                      "database_user"
                      targetpassword      "xxxxxxx"
                      targetdatabase      some_database_net-vb
                      targettableprefix
                      vb3_

                      Source Database ]
// this is the current up and running PHPBB forums
// Forums must still be installed and able to get to database
                      //

; If the system that is being imported from uses a database,
enter the details for it here and set 'sourceexists' to TRUE.
                      ; If
the source data is NOT stored in a databaseset 'sourceexists' to FALSE

                      sourceexists
                      true

                      mysql OR mssql
                      sourcedatabasetype
                      mysql
                      sourceserver
                      localhost /or some_server
                      sourceuser
                      "phpbb_database_user"
                      sourcepassword      "xxxxxxx"
                      sourcedatabase      some_data_base
                      sourcetableprefix
phpbb_ put in your phpbb database prefix here
                      That's it-
Took about 5 mins to import 200k posts and about 1900 users

ok thanks guys that helped me
guess i was a bit slow minded there :P

anyway i got almost everything imported
but for some reason when i click memberlist it only shows my username
                        and nothing else
the imported ones are not in the member list
and i did the counter part for it

Did you follow the instructions in the End Game section of the Importing HOWTO thread:

                          http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=116398

If so, there are two options you need to check to set whether or not members are viewable on memberlist:

                          1. By usergroup:
Admin CP -> Usergroups -> Usergroup Manager -> Edit -> Usergroup Options -> Viewable on the Memberlist -> Yes

                          2. By post count:
Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> User Listing & Profile Viewing -> Minimum Posts
