  • keeping phpbb thread id

hey ive done some test imports of my phpbb forum to vb3 and its all worked fine.. just one thing! is there away i can keep my phpbb thread id's

i was hoping it would just be

    viewtopic.php?t=26186

    changed too

    showthread.php?t=26186

so then i could us htaccess to something to redirect viewtopic to showthread

trouble is my board has lots of outside linkers, lots of threads are linked on other sites aswell as good search engine ranks..

is there anyway this can be done?? i do understand that search engines will pick things back up again.. but that doesnt help all the outside links.

NOTE: this import is just a simply move from phpbb to vb no other threads / users or posts to worry about.. just a fresh import

Please see my previous thread: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=139306

I have abandoned this idea and left the phpBB forum in read-only.

You can hack showthread.php in order to fetch the thread by importedthreadid

As I said in that thread, it can be done and is being worked on just don't remove the import ids.

There is no way you can keep the original thread id's its the whole URL.

I created a new viewtopic.php file that will redirect to vB showthread.php with the corresponding threadid or postid

That is a hack and shouldn't be posted here, also it invalidates your support.

Is there any progress towards a script to convert the internal phpbb forum links within posts to vbulletin links?

I'm sure many people would find this to be an extremely useful feature for Impex. Or has anyone come up with a standalone script to update the internal post links? I'd love to hear from anyone who has been successful with this.

I have a new test install of vBulletin running side-by-side with the old phpBB, so I'm thinking of a script that would search through the text of all posts looking for internal domain forum topic and post links:

              %mydomain.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=%
              %mydomain.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=%

...then compare the post_subject or topic_title from the post_id or topic_id with the vBulletin posts to find the appropriate value for a replacement vBulletin link.

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

No, internal link parsing is on hold.

I think they cover most of the story.
