do you have a targettableprefix set ?

Check what you have set for your vBulletin table prefix in includes/config.php and make sure that its set the same in impex/ImpExConfig.php

The "includes/config.php" in my vBtest folder does not ask for prefixes.

I suggest you do the following:
        - First make sure you have a working target vBulletin Board. If you have not installed your target board, do so now by uploading the files to your server, rename and edit your './includes/config.php', and run the './install/install.php'. After installation make sure your board is working properly by going to the forumhome page.
        - Download a fresh copy of ImpEx (there have been a change the last few days that will make things simpler for you).
        - Upload the contents of the 'upload' folder from the ImpEx zip-file (ie. the folder named 'impex') using ASCII mode ftp to your forumhome directory. (if you want you could skip all subdirectories of the './impex/systems' folder, except the folder with the name of your source board)
        - Rename the file './impex/ImpExConfig.php.new' to './impex/ImpExConfig.php' and edit the file. Ignore the settings for the target database, and adjust the settings for the source database as follows:
        Code:
sourceexists = TRUE <- Set this to true
        ; mysql OR mssql
        sourcedatabasetype = mysql
sourceserver = mysql10.powweb.com <- Set this to your source servername
sourceuser = "xxx" <- Set this to the MySQL user that has access to your source database.
sourcepassword = "xxx" <- Set this to the password of the MySQL user that has access to your source database.
sourcedatabase = golfconnection	<- Set this to the name of your source database
sourcetableprefix = phpBB2Plus <- Set this to the table prefix used in your source database
        - Now login to the AdminCP of your new vB Board (ie. http://URLToYourBoard/admincp)
        - Navigate in the menu on the left to Import & Maintenance->Import / Export
        - In the top of your screen you should see the text 'Using includes/config.php for target config.'
        - Now follow the instructions on your screen. All should be working correct.

I just did this day-before yesterday. I can make the edits you suggest, but do I still need to s/l a new Impex file?

I suggest that you download the latest version. I can not say if my method will work in the version you have. It was just changed in the last day(s).

OK, downloaded and install the latest and greatest Impex (I think). Ran the Import, and it went along very smoothly, until it got to the last module: Import Attachments. Than I got this:

Database error in vBulletin:ImpEx Source 3.0.7:
                Invalid SQL:
                SELECT * FROM phpBB2Plusattachments_desc
                ORDER BY attach_id
                LIMIT 0,100
mysql error: Table 'golfconnection.phpBB2Plusattachments_desc' doesn't exist
                mysql error number: 1146

I went out to the vBtest site, but nothing was there. Apparently the Import has to be completed before anything shows up at the site. Funny thing tho, down at the bottom of the front page, it shows "The newest registered user is Harvey Bunce (as it does on the sorce board).

Sorry i can't help you with the error you are getting.

About your board appearing to be empty, make sure you have done "The End Game" part of the ImpEx instructions. If you update your counters as described there, you will probably see all your posts.

PS If you go into a forum, you will probably also see the posts.

Not sure about the missing phpBB2Plusattachments_desc table other than the system is reporting it doesnn;t exist..

As for the other stuff, please read the Importing HOWTO thread:

                    http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=116398

Take special note of The End Game section.
