  • phpBB 2.0.14 to VB3.0.7, a few problems and quick questions

I guess I'm just too used to using phpBB, haha.

Anyway, before I actually back up my forum (, I went ahread and created a test forum and uploaded a back-up into it (

I ran the Impex back up, and after a few crashes, reinstalls, screw ups, typos, etc I managed to get it to work

    well... kinda...

    1) none of my users are showing up in members list, but it shows them under the statistics part of the index
    2) none of my posts are showing up at all, even though it clearly shows that they are being transfered when I run through the import/export
    3) None of my smileys get imported, the descriptions of the smileys get imported

    Misc questions
    1) I want to edit the layout of the thread display so it doesn't have the avatar/etc above the thread, but next to it. I'm not sure which file/what to edit, but if you could point me in the right direction/show me a hack that already does that, I would appreciate it.

Any help and explainations are appreciated, I want to make sure that my transfer goes perfectly when I do the final version of it.

For some reason everytime I try to post a link to where I installed vB it automatically gets changed wrong, "vbackuptest" should have an extra b after the first one in there also

    1) There are two options you need to check to set whether or not members are viewable on memberlist:

    1. By usergroup:

Admin CP -> Usergroups -> Usergroup Manager -> Edit -> Usergroup Options -> Viewable on the Memberlist -> Yes

    2. By post count:

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> User Listing & Profile Viewing -> Minimum Posts

    2) Please read the Importing HOWTO thread:

Take special note of The End Game section. Following these steps should solve those issues.

    3) I don't believe smilies are 'imported'. You will need to upload the smilies you want to use.

1b) This is an option in the Admin CP:

Admin CP -> vBulletion Options -> Style & Language Settings -> Use Legacy (Vertical) Postbit Template -> Yes

Thanks, those problems were fixed but I found another problem.

All my imported users have their Message Editor Interface set to Basic Editor, so none of them are able to see the smilies/etc. Everyone that has signed up post-VB3 has it set to Standard from sign-up.

I'm getting lots of PMs about it even after making an announcement telling people how to fix it. Is there some way to mass fix it so that it is set to Standard? I looked under Admin CP under Message Posting Interface Options (I have allow Advanced and Standard set) and Message Posting and Editing Options but can't find a way to mass fix it.

You can mass update the preferences of existing users in:

Admin CP -> Import & Maintenance -> Execute SQL Query

Note: You must have permission to execute queries in your includes/config.php file:

// The users specified here will be allowed to run queries from the control panel.
// See the above entries for more information on the format.
// Please note that the ability to run queries is quite powerful. You may wish
// to remove all user IDs from this list for security reasons.
        $canrunqueries = '1';
