  • importing from UBB Classic 6.5.0 on another server

Today I bought and installed vBulletin but now I have run into trouble importing data from by installation of UBB Classic 6.5.0, which is on a different server.

I have installed the Impex utility but ran into trouble when running it. I think the main problem is because the old forum is on a different server.

I checked the paths in the control panel of the old forum and gives me the following:
    Full path to UBB.Classic (non-cgi) folder: /www/aaaaaa/forum
Full path to UBB.Classic CGI variables folder: /www/aaaaaa/cgi-bin/ubbcgi
Full path to UBB.Classic Members folder: /www/aaaaaa/cgi-bin/Members

Because the old forums are on a different server I figured I could simply add on the server name. ie:
    Full path to UBB.Classic (non-cgi) folder: http://www.aaaaaa.com/forum
Full path to UBB.Classic CGI variables folder: http://www.aaaaaa.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi
Full path to UBB.Classic Members folder: http://www.aaaaaa.com/cgi-bin/Members

I'm not using customs smilies/graemlins or polls.

Also I wasn't sure about the relative path so I just put:
    http://www.aaaaaa.com/forum

Can I import from another domain like this or do I have to copy everything across to the new server? Because UBB doesn't have a database, which files do I copy across?

The vast majority of the files will not be able to be read via http, it needs local file access. Even if it could do that it would be very very slow.

Make a tar or zip file of the whole forum/ and cgi-bin/ folder from your ubb site, them ftp that to the new server and de compress them.

You will then need to give the file path not the URL to the folders.

    i.e.

    /home/jerry/ubb_temp/forum
    /home/jerry/ubb_temp/cgi-bin

The relative path dosn't matter as you are moving servers, just use "../ubb".
    I wrote ImpEx.
