  • Import & Maintenance -> Import / Export ???

    The Impex instructions say:
From your Admin Control Panel (admincp/ by default), select Import & Maintenance then Import / Export and select the system you wish to import, from the list.
however, my control panel does not have a "Import / Export" option:

I was nervous about performing the IMPEX tasks, and am now even more nervous now that I can't even get to the first step! Can someone please help?

I grabbed IMPEX from here, did the file edits, and then uploaded them to my public_html directory. Then I logged in to the site I want to import the data to, and don't see an IMPORT/EXPORT function. Is there more to the install process? I am at this step in the manual:

This means you did not upload the Impex files correctly. They should be in an 'impex' subdirectory off the main forum directory.

thanks- the directions were confusing, but I see where I made my mistake now. Hopefully you won't be hearing from me again

that got it to work - but one last (hopefully) question:

I am importing to a 3.0.5 forum from a 3.03 forum. The new forum I set up has a few test forums that I added just to make sure it was working, etc., and I am the only member of the new board so far, of course. DO I need to delete the test forums from the new site I just put up before I import the old database to the new one? will it overwrite or add to the data?

The Import will not overwrite any existing forums. You can delete them either before of after importing.

cool- also- I assume can I skip any of the import steps except for step 1 (If I don't want to import the polls, etc.). Is this correct?

That depends on which steps you want to skip. Some are dependent on others.

I made a copy of vb2 forums to a new website and performed an upgrade to vb3 without breaking my working site. Now that vB3 is running ok and I've got my custom skin on, etc I'm ready to switch my working site to be the vb3 site. In the meantime there's a load of new users and forum threads on my vb2 site which aren't on my vb3 site.

So I'm going to use Impex. As the Impex iImport will not overwrite any existing forums or users - in my vb3 forum I want to delete all of the users and forum posts then run Impex.

The quickest way to do this (as I have 2500+ users) would be to delete the users and forum posts using mySQL. I'd appreciate it if someone could please advise me what commands I should use in mySQL to acheive this.

Don't try this with MySQL. Prune these users and posts in the Admin CP.

I've pruned all of the users and left with only the administrator account. How do I deal with this when I run Impex?

I logged out of my vb3 site now can't get back in because of an invalid password on my administrator account. - Just taken a look at the mySQL user table... and it's empty so I'll recreate my admin account manually in the users table.

Ive recreated my admin account directly in the user tableand used the same password string from the user table of my vB2 board in the user table of my vB3 board. Attempting to log in to the site through a browser I get an invalid password error message. So I thought I'd go down the Lost Password Recovery Form route so filled in my email address in the web form... and it appears that the email isn't being sent (the email isn't being passed to the mail server - lokked in the email queues and logs - nothing there).

                          What else can I try?

I've deleted the account all together in the user table so there was no users at all. Went into the forum and signed up as a new member then went and changed the usergroupid to 6 to make that account an administrator.

I've finished running ImPex and everything appears to be ok except that all my forum and user IDs have changed. This was probably because there was previously a load of users, forums and posts from my vb2 to vb3 upgrade.

How to I now undo this (reset all the IDs at 0 before re-running Impex?) and get them to be the same IDs as my vB2 forum?

The statstics block at the bottom of /forums/index.php shows for my vb3 board:
                              Threads: 139, Posts: 175, Members: 2,554
                              and for my vB2 board:
                              Threads: 739, Posts: 835, Members: 2,553

When I click on members list it lists 1 user (myself)

In the Usergroup Manager all of my usergroups appear twice - once in the Help Default Usergroups section and once in the Custom Usergroups section. How do I bulk move the users in each custom category to the relevant default category?
