  • vB Facebook App - Changing URLs for HTTPS - SSL Certificate

Thanks Trevor for the outstanding guidance on making vB work with SSL here.

However, I am still stuck on page 1 of the guide and was wondering whether anyone could provide additional advise and guidance to the following:

Planning to upload the vB Facebook App files to my site's root directory I've requested my host to provide me with a SSL certificate. Because it's shared the new URL has now the following syntax:

In admincp > settings > Site Name / URL / Contact Details do I change the following settings to match this syntax? -

    Forum URL
    CMS Component URL
    Blog Component URL
    Homepage URL

Second, must settings be changed at vbSEO as well - and if so, which ones?

Thanks heaps for advise/response in advance -

You shouldn't need to change the URL for your entire site. The URL for your app can be different from your main site URL.

      Thanks tpearl5 -

Spoke with my technician at the hosting company who thinks my .htaccess file needs some rewriting.

If I follow Trevor's instructions and want to install the vb Facebook App in a file called [ /gblcgfacebook ] and would like to apply the ssl to that file only, how will I achieve that?

Currently, my https adress should be .... but this doesn't seem to work.

My htaccess file starts as follows:

      RewriteEngine On
      RewriteCond %{HTTPS} on
      RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.gblcg\.com
      RewriteRule ^(.*)$$1 [R=301,L]

What's going wrong here - any ideas?

Thanks heaps in advance!! - The Business of Your Future - Strategy Redefined.

I'd like to take credit for the instructions but can't - I only posted them up...

Your Site URL is actually this -

If you've placed the FB App files in a subdirectory of your domain called /gblcgfacebook then the SSL certificate needs to be set for either:

        - or

Having the Certificate on the domain as a whole won't force users to use the https version of your URL and will allow for any further secure apps or software than you might want to add to your site later.

          Trevor -

Just letting you know that this has been solved as per five mins ago.

Heaps of thanks for your help and patience mate!

Setting aside a minor bug, all seems to work very nicely...
