  • [Forum] Registration issue

    Hi,

I am writing to you because members of my discord server have informed me that they are unable to register on my forum.

Some of them (only 2) managed to register by receiving the email in their spam.

When I tried with my gmail address, I didn't receive any email or anything.

I have tried several changes in AdminCP but nothing happens. It seems impossible to register on my forum...

I need your help! to solve this issue!

    Best regards,
    Eden

    1. Switch from sendmail to SMTP. (Settings → Options → Email Settings)
    2. Make sure you're using an email on your domain as the Webmaster Contact (Settings → Options → SIte Name / URL / Contact Details)
    3. Make sure you have proper RDNS set up for your domain.

      Hi Luke!

Thanks so much for your quick reply!

I'm not sure how to configure this. I've checked the email settings and there's no "sendmail" but I've ticked "yes" for SMTP this time.

My email is [email protected] which I created on my web hosting CPanel.
Maybe I should switch to a gmail address to avoid further problems.

For the SMTP host, I wrote: smtp.edengenesis.ws but I'm not sure that's correct.

As for the SMTP username and password, I have no idea what they are. I assume it's my login to connect to my [email protected] email in CPanel but I'm not sure....

Where do I check the RDNS? I assume it's also in my host's CPanel, isn't it?

Sendmail is the default and it isn't very feature rich and doesn't include many anti-spam protections.

If you go into the Mail section of cPanel, it should have a link next to each address on how to configure clients to use it. You would use the SMTP settings for vBulletin.. usually a server name, port address, username, and password. https://blog.cpanel.com/setting-up-a...mtp-in-cpanel/

RDNS is handled by your domain name registrar or whoever actually handles your DNS. Their help files should tell you how to set it up on your domain name.

          Hello,

I made all the changes with the help of my webhosting, and domain name support should take care of RDNS.

However, it seems that there are still problems.

I've noticed that there's no message displayed when I enter an email during registration.

It would have been nice to have a message informing us that the message has been sent and that we will receive a confirmation email.

When I try to register, I don't see any confirmation or messages; the only time I get a message is when I save an email already registered.

While the form is being filled out, the system will check to see if the email address has been used previously against the existing database. It isn't verifying the email during this process.

The email will only be sent after the registration form is completed and submitted to the server. It is not submitted after the user types in an email addresses. And it requires the option to verify email addresses under Settings → Options → User Registration Options to be turned on.

I solved this problem by creating email in my own domain name.
It detects other emails as spam.

To clarify, vBulletin doesn't detect anything as spam. vBulletin doesn't do anything except connect to a mail server and say here some text and you should send it to this address.

The end user's email server will often detect email as spam when it comes from one domain but the email is from another domain. Whether it appears in the user's spam bucket or is immediately thrown away depends on the configuration of the user's mail server.

The email is already an email created from my domain name in fact...

I contacted my web host who made all the changes for me and they replied as follows:

                  Hi,

Thank you for getting back to us.

I checked the email logs on the server end, and I was unable to view any server-end issues. The email deliverability seems to be working fine without any issues. You may check the received emails from the webmail interface at: https://la-s2.serverpanel.net:2096

From the screenshot, the settings used to configure the forum seem fine. I would highly recommend you check it with the vBulletin team and the forum scripts once. You may definitely try using a different email address to set up vBulletin.

If you have any queries, please feel free to contact us.

                  Best regards,

They asked me to check with you...

Do I need to reinstall vBulletin or change my registration settings?

I also have a vbulletin mod called Advanced registration from DragonByteTech but there's nothing that conflicts with the vBulletin settings inside, so I don't know what to do now.
