  • AdSense Ads not Displaying on Some ShowThread Pages

    Hello,

    A few weeks ago, I changed two of my three AdSense units to use responsive ad code, and the responsive ads look quite a bit better than the fixed size ads I was previously using for two of the three units. However, I've noticed that about 20% - 30% of the time on ShowThread pages, the ad units showing responsive ad code (ad_global_below_navbar and ShowThread, which shows an ad above Quick Reply) do not appear; when this happens, the user sees blank space where the ad should be, so it looks incredibly ugly. I've exhausted every option I can think of in determining what the common denominator is when the ads don't appear, and it appears to be some sort of issue specific to ShowThread with the responsive ads, as the fixed ad unit I have in postbit_legacy under the first post of each page always displays. When I revert the responsive ads to fixed text, the problem goes away; however, I'd really like to have responsive ads, if possible, because they look better and the click through rate is higher than the fixed size ads. As is, though, I'm not sure those two factors are worth the loss in ad impressions I'm seeing due to the ads not always appearing. For what it's worth, the ad under the navigation bar always displays on pages other than ShowThread, so the problem appears to be specific to that. I haven't modified the AdSense code other than to have it not display to certain vB groups and to display a link to get rid of ads, and neither of those changes are new. I wouldn't think it's a crawling problem since the ads do appear when they're not responsive.

    Below is the code I'm using in the ad_global_below_navbar template for responsive ads:

    Code:
    <vb:if condition="!is_member_of($bbuserinfo, 5,6,23)">
    <div align="center">
    <script async src="https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js"></script>
    <!-- Global - Below Navigation Bar -->
    <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block" data-ad-client="ca-pub-5053889141895539" data-ad-slot="3265951505" data-ad-format="auto" data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>
    <script> (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); </script>
    <br>
    <a href="https://www.redszone.com/forums/payments.php">Turn Off Ads?</a>
    </div>
    </vb:if>
    Below is the code I'm using in ShowThread to display the responsive ad above Quick Reply:

    Code:
    <vb:if condition="!is_member_of($bbuserinfo, 5,6,23)">
    <div align="center">
    <script async src="https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js"></script>
    <!-- ShowThread - Above Quick Reply -->
    <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block" data-ad-client="ca-pub-5053889141895539" data-ad-slot="2930160000" data-ad-format="auto" data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>
    <script> (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); </script>
    <br>
    <a href="https://www.redszone.com/forums/payments.php">Turn Off Ads?</a>
    </div>
    </vb:if>
    This code appears immediately before <div id="below_postlist" class="<vb:if condition="!$show['inlinemod']">noinlinemod </vb:if>below_postlist">

    Finally, below is code I'm using at the very bottom of the postbit_legacy template to display the fixed size ads after the first post of each page:

    Code:
    <vb:if condition="($post['isfirstshown']) AND (!is_member_of($bbuserinfo, 5,6,23))">
    <div align="center">
    <script async src="https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js"></script>
    <!-- ShowThread - Below First Post -->
    <ins class="adsbygoogle"
    style="display:inline-block;width:728px;height:90px"
    data-ad-client="ca-pub-5053889141895539"
    data-ad-slot="0978127535"></ins>
    <script>
    (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
    </script>
    <br>
    <a href="https://www.redszone.com/forums/payments.php">Turn Off Ads?</a>
    </div>
    </vb:if>
    Is there anything wrong with this code, is the problem completely outside of my control (i.e. on Google's end) or is it due to some other reason? I would really appreciate some assistance with this, as it's resulting in quite a bit of lost revenue - thanks in advance!

    Please disregard this - it required a minor adjustment to a tag in the responsive ad code, and now all appears well.
