  • [Forum] Make CMS my home page of main website paage

    Mon 7 Jan 2013, 7:54 am

    Hello,

Noob. Non-techie here. Please play nice!

    We installed VB4.2 here =>

    http://forum.mindbodythailand.net

With the intention of using http://www.mindbodythailand.net/index.html
as an introduction/gateway or something like that.

However, after looking at CMS, that appears to be a better solution for our home page.

So how do I get http://www.mindbodythailand.net to open CMS, in other words, when you go to mindbodythailand.net, you get => mindbodythailand.net/forum/content.php ?

I created an .htaccess file in mindbodythailand folder

And it actually works, but I deactivated it because all my subdomains (e.g., directory.mindbodythailand.net) took you to content.php . That makes me wonder what else if adversely effected?

Anyway, what is the most elegant and SEO friendly way to get

    mindbodythailand.net/forum/content.php

to open when you go to

    mindbodythailand.net ???

    Thanks much for your help.

There are several ways, you could move the cms to the root directory, or you could move the entire forum into the root.

I suspect you want just the cms in the root, is this correct?

      Hi Zachary,

      Thanks for the lighting-fast reply!

I suspect that I just want to move CMS to the root directory, and I assume you mean moving the "content" folder and the "content.php" file over. But that sounds too easy! Don't I have to change any configurations to make sure all the links continue to work and the entire forum maintains it's integrity?

And if I do move the CMS over, do I just rename content.php to index.php, or what?

Sorry for my low skill set and thanks again for your help.

      Rex

You have to make a few changes.

You'll need to login to the AdminCP > Settings > Options > Site Name / URL / Contact Details

Under CMS Component URL, set it to

        http://mindbodythailand.net

        Then save.

Upload the CMS files directory from the do_not_upload directory to the directory you want the CMS to be located in.
If you are using rewrite friendly URLs, you will need to copy the .htaccess file from do_not_upload/rewrite/apache2/cms to the stub directory before uploading.

Question along the same lines - if I were to move the entire forum to my root directory, what steps would I need to take after doing so?

To move your installation to the site root:

            - update the Forum URL value in AdminCP > Settings > Options > Site Name / URL / Contact Details
            - move all vB files to your root directory
            Vote for:

            - *Admin Settable Paid Subscription Reminder Timeframe*
            -
*PM - Add ability to reply to originator only*
            - Add Admin ability to auto-subscribe users to specific channel(s)
            - Highlight the correct navigation tab when you are on a custom page
            - "Quick Route" Interface...
            - Allow to use custom icons for individual forums
