[Forum] Problem with registration mail, symbols instead of forum name

Have a problem when, after registration user received Welcome message. Name of the forum appears in strange symbols.
Pls see printscreen below. How to fix it?

As far as I understand it comes from variable $vboptions[bbtitle]. But how to make it work properly?

Me too. I upgraded to vbulletin 5 and it still happens. The actual Welcome email looks like this ie. Welcome to $vboptions[bbtitle]!

Two very different issues.

The issue in post #1 is a lack of UTF-8 Support on the database level combined with text only emails that won't convert the HTML entities that are stored in the database. The solution is to change the database to UTF8MB4 then set a UTF-8 character set and use the appropriate UTF-8 Locale in the Language Settings within the AdminCP.

The issue in post #2 is due to modified email phrases carried over from vBulletin 4.X. vBulletin 5 does not use variables directly in phrases. It uses tokens that can be substituted for variables as needed. The reason for this as a object oriented system, we don't actually know what variables are available until the phrase is parsed. This is different from vBulletin 4.X where each page had its own script driving a single purpose. To resolve this issue, you need to remove the translations in the phrase manager by deleting the contents of the translation box and saving the phrase. Then re-apply any custom text you want in the email.
