  • [Forum] Deleting a thread from Database in vBulletin 4

My forum is based on vBulletin 4 and the problem I am facing is with a particular thread. Lot of spamming is been done on that thread due which my site has become very slow and I get this very unusual error called Database Error whenever I post or perform any action on forum. I found that particular thread but the problem is I cannot view it if I am logged in as admin in order to remove it. If I am logged out I can view that specific thread. The only possible thing I find is to delete that thread from the database. Now can someone please help me out by providing the information to delete that particular thread from the database. How should I delete it from the DB? Help.

Don't touch your database over that error. If your host is refusing to increase it for that reason - and you have no addons that could be causing the issue - then find another host. No amount of playing in the database will fix it, and will almost certainly break things if you don't know what you're doing.

Sounds like you've exceeded the resources your host is prepared to allow - move onto to someone else is my advice.

That may well be because he's getting spam-bombed, though.

Go into AdminCP and shut down your forum: Settings >> Options >> Turn Your vBulletin On and Off >> vBulletin Active = No

You may need a little while to release the connections but you should then be able to go into the thread as an Admin and clean it up - or delete it.

Then you are really going to need some better anti-spam protection:

          1. Install Spammers suck! to blobk spam-bots.

          2. Then install either vbStopForumSpam or [GlowHost] Spam-O-Matic - Spam Firewall stops forum spam.

          3. Then you can try turning your forum back on.

Could well be but in the long run I'd go with a new host. Whenever you get a host who starts blaming the script on your server, clearly without any investigation, then they have no idea of your needs and it's time to go.

The error and the solution has been posted many times in the [GlowHost] Spam-O-Matic - Spam Firewall stops forum spam thread at vBulletin.org. Ask there if you can't find it,

Indeed....we are unable to provide support for modifications here, so you'd need to ask at www.vbulletin.org, as stated.
