[Forum] Quick Style Chooser Issue

I've received reports that some users cannot use the Quick Style Chooser. When they click it, the dropdown doesn't come up, and they have to change their style through their User CP. One of the users with this issue, an administrator, is using Safari, but tried Mozilla Firefox and still had issues.

I can confirm this myself if I visit the forum as a guest on Google Chrome and Internet Explorer:

Well, for some reason, uploading isn't working correctly right now here and the images uploaded weird.

I had an issue when updating some older styles from vB 4.10 to 4.2. The chooser no longer worked. I had to manually go in there and copy in new code. I think it was because some things changed when they added mobile styles as a separate section.

Correct, it is the footer template. the style selector code is updated with new one in footer template, you need to copy a new one, you can view from "Show Default" or "View History" in the footer template editing interface.

The only thing I changed on the footer was removing the time, since I have it appearing on the top under the navigation bar.

I also don't see a "View History" button.

you must click and get into the footer template to see the view history and default template link
and if your changes is only the time you can just revert the footer template and redo your time code removal again.

That made the dropdown come up on Google Chrome, but the webpage cannot be displayed page still shows up on Internet Explorer, and it's still being reported a problem.

Have you actually reverted the footer template yet?

There were changes in there in a recent version (4.1.10 possibly) that will break the style chooser if the template is not reverted.

I tried that before, actually, I believe, and it didn't work.

Anyway, I just reverted it again, and it's still broken on Internet Explorer -- and probably on other browsers, such as MF and GC, as well for other users. Should I try rebuilding forum information?

Well the actual code itself is correct, I have tested it and it produces a workable dropdown. However yours is not working.

Something in your custom style will be causing this. You can test this by creating a new style with no parent, and see if the dropdown works there. Assuming it does, it's then a matter of tracking down what's breaking it.

I'd start like this.
Firstly, is it broken on EVERY page or just some pages?
if it's EVERY page, then look at common templates, such as header, navbar, etc. Take copies of these and then one by one revert them. If you find one that, when reverted, makes the dropdown work, then you know which template contains the rogue code.
As you test each one, afterwards paste the code you copied back in to restore them to your custom style layout.

Of course, it could be a plugin causing it but the above will rule out direct template stuff.

I don't know. It depends how you have embedded it. Do a template search for "googlesyndication", that should pinpoint it.

Using Search in Templates brought up two templates in the Ad Location Templates category:

• ad_global_above_footer
• ad_navbar_below
  - Modified on 8/17/2012 by our owner.

It was around that date when people started reporting it to me.



So since that appears to be it, reverting it back to the default blank form would fix the issue, right?

EDIT: Tried that, and it didn't work. It got rid of the Page cannot be displayed thing at the top, but it's still on the QSC.

EDIT 2: Just tried a default style, too. Had to temporarily make it the forum default so guests could see it since they can't use the QSC, and the issue is still there.
