  • [Forum] DB Error Notices after 4.2.0 Patch

As I was uploading the latest 4.2.0 patch 2 to my server, I started getting e-mail database error notices at the rate of one every few minutes.

The first thing I noticed was that it says "Database error in vBulletin 4.1.12", although I'm running 4.2.0 patch 2.

The next thing I noticed was that the referenced script was obviously SPAM.

For background, I'm still building my membership site and my VB forum is inactive. My site was the target of a massive spam attack (on a different server) months ago so after re-installing a clean copy on a new host, I promptly shut down all new signups, posts, etc. and placed the forum behind my membership software log-in (so you'd have to log-in to my membership site first before being able to access VB.)

Since then I've had zero new "guest" sign-ups, no SPAM posts, etc.

    So my questions are:

    1. Does the discrepancy in databases indicate a configuration issue with my VB site?
    2. Are the script messages an indication my site has been compromised?
    3. If not, is there a way to turn off these messages, as at this rate I'll get several hundred a day.

    Thanks!

This error says you uploaded the files but did not run the upgrade script. Please run the upgrade script in install/upgrade.php.

I had thought about that, but I thought I was just applying the latest patch and the instructions indicated the upgrade script wouldn't need to be run.

Being new to VB, I didn't want to run a script without being told lest I make it worse.

      Thanks!

      All fixed.

For future reference, when there's a "patch", do I download it from the main page or somewhere else?

I downloaded the latest version after logging-in. In hindsight, I was actually running an upgrade when I thought I was applying a patch using the patch instructions.

      Thanks again!

You cannot apply a 4.2.0 patch to 4.1.12. Patches only work with their version. If you change versions you must perform a full upgrade.
