Did you "clear system cache" in the ACP? Have you tried sending yourself another pm?

I sent myself a pm, number of notifications showed 2. After I opened the pm, number of notification goes back to 1. I deleted the pm and number of notifications stays the same (1).

Just upgraded from 5.1.4 to 5.1.5. When we click to delete a notification, it often takes several times before it actually fully disapears. In other words:
1) We go to the notification page...-
