No photos from sample articles made it during upgrade

Thanks. The contenttypeid's 17-19 are already taken up by signature, usernote, and blog entry...does this need to change?

Just upgraded from 3.8 into a new directory as suggested, but none of the images in the sample articles made it into the CMS. Is there an easy way to get the images into the articles after that fact?
