[Forum] Interesting log in problem, "Remember me"??

After installing Patch Level 2 into VB 4.2.0 everything appears to be okay except this...
Try logging in, enter in credentials, the page up dates to "Welcome [your user name].
Next page updates to the beginning, that is, as though you never logged in.
Surprise! I can enter credentials and check "Remember me" and everything acts normal. In other words, you can only log in if you check "Remember me".
This problem does not exist when I log into the Admin C.P.
I have searched everywhere in the Admin CP and can find nothing related to this problem, have I missed something?

If you allow users to login to your site via both http://www.yoursite.com and just yoursite.com., then you MUST have your cookie domain (AdminCP > Settings > Options > Cookies and HTTP Header Options > Cookie Domain) set to ".yoursite.com" (no quotes, but note the period at the beginning) or your users will have problems. Also, make sure to tell your users to click the Remember Me button when they login.

A better way to fix this problem is to use a .htaccess file. The reason is that you want all links to your website to either have the www or not have the www. I suggest using the www as it makes it more clear that its a website. This will improve SEO.

Create a .htaccess file and enter the following code.

RewriteEngine on

rewritecond %{http_host} ^yoursite.com [nc]
rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.yoursite.com/$1 [r=301,nc]

When working properly you will see how the URL automatically is converted to http://www.yoursite.com/ even if the www is omitted.
