  • [Forum] Keep getting internal server error on VB 4.2.0

This has been particularly a problem the last few days:

For whatever reason, I've been constantly getting a "500 Internal Server Error" when I try to get to my message board (http://www.toosmarttofail.com/forums). It will let me log in at times, but even after running checks and the like and seemingly having the board working properly, the problem persists. I called my hosting provider, and it appears to be nothing on their end, while the rest of the site (http://www.toosmarttofail.com) is working properly. For example, on Sunday 6/24, after having problems with the message board, for two Price and Probability sheets we were offering FREE on the site, instead of having them go through the board as we normally do, we had them go directly to the sheets themselves for Churchill Downs and Woodbine (which had their Queen's Plate program on Sunday) as the rest of the site seems to be unaffected by this (I'm including links to the other pages to demonstrate that this seems to specifically be an issue with the message board where I am getting the server error). I'm even having trouble at times with the Admin page and logging in there with the same server error issue.

Any help to fix this would be appreciated.

A 500 Internal Server Error means there is an error message in your server logs- ask your host to get you a copy of the logs (or tell you where you can find the logs) and that will give far more valuable information on the cause of the error- without that it's just a random shot in the dark as to the cause.

Are you on GoDaddy by any chance? I'm having the same issues and getting the runaround from them saying its not their problem. https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/show.../403503-Errors

        Hi Walt,

Not sure if this will help, but the links you provided in post #1 have URLs to both:

        http://www.toosmarttofail.com/

        and

        http://toosmarttofail.com/

Notice how the second one has the www omitted. This can be a real problem with forums and can cause all sorts of problems. I suggest you create a .htaccess file with the following code:

        Code:
        RewriteEngine on

        rewritecond %{http_host} ^toosmarttofail.com [nc]
        rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.toosmarttofail.com/$1 [r=301,nc]

          Thanks for your help.

This may very well be a GoDaddy issue that is causing the problem as one of the posters has noted (I have not had a chance to address this in the last day or two as I've been doing catchup work elsewhere). I'm going to be writing up a support ticket and note the page Tagman linked to.

I never got the issue resolved through GoDaddy, but turning off Facebook connect got rid of the errors I was having for now.
