[Forum] Editing links inserts smiley face

Would this qualify as a bug?

    1) A link is posted into a new message.

    2) When we edit a post that has a link, it converts the colon : and slash / into a frownie face.

    3) But only while editing.

    4) Naturally the link should stay a link, visually. The link remains working after completion of edit.

The obvious solution is to rewrite the frownie face thing, but that isn't really an acceptable solution as this shouldn't be happening.

Is there a better way or should this be sumitted to bug tracker

    Thanks!

It's always been that way. There are several smiley faces that do that. It goes back to the days when people used to use text only smiley emoticons.

I've been temped to change the simple smiley codes so that problem goes away. For example make the smile face be  instead of :)

I think it shows only if advanced WYSIWYG editor is on. WYSIWYG is working as it should in this case.

On my forum I don't allow the WYSIWYG editor, everyone uses the Standard editor which eliminates many issues like this and it's easier to use IMHO.

Allow me to play Devil's advocate then.

          This is a bug.

The WYSIWIG editor should not change the http:// into a :/ face on the edit screen.

This technically should be addressed and fixed by vBulletin guys.

If not, lets debate about why not

          VB

As a second question - what are the features that people people *LOSE* if they dont get the WSYWIG editor?

          - - - Updated - - -

          UPDATE on this ..................

This is definitely a bug. I typed http:// into my forum and when i *POSTED* the message, it converted it to http(frownieface)/ right on the message itself. So it doesnt just happen on the WSYWIG editor.

I realize most people will type out a full URL .. not just the http:// .... but clearly there is a bug here ... due to the overlap in characters .... and it can be programmed for and fixed.

I guess until this bug is fixed we are going to have to completely scrap the :/ emoticon.

They lose the ability to see the text as it will be displayed in the post. For example bold text will look like standard text except it will have the bold code surrounding the word.

I suggest you try the Standard editor, it's much easier to use and compose with IMHO.
